The Rural Youth Project, led by the EYCA Youth Panel

gives a voice to young people from rural areas across Europe. The goal: to understand their needs, strengthen their participation, and create opportunities adapted to their reality. After an initial research phase, a Rural Youth Camp gathered 50 young people from all over Europe in Spain to exchange ideas and propose concrete solutions.

Methodology & Participants

1563 young people from 20 European countries were surveyed.

The majority aged 18-21 (36%).

Most are in education (from secondary to doctoral level).

Gender: 66% female, 32% male, 1% prefer not to disclose.

Motivation & Engagement

Motivators: sports or cultural clubs (54%), rural youth camps (52%)

Only 26% actively take part in local community activities (cultural, ecological, educational)

Barriers: lack of information, insufficient initiatives, and limited youth-friendly spaces.
